What inspectors found, November 2023
Rated Good; inspectors found safe, well-led care, but some care plans and risk assessments were still being completed.
Inspectors made an unannounced visit on 18 October 2023. They spoke with people living in the home, relatives, staff, managers and a social worker. They reviewed five care records, medicines and management records, audits and recruitment checks.
The home was rated Good for Safe and Well-led. Inspectors found enough staff, safe medicines management, safeguarding procedures and suitable infection control. People said they felt safe and that staff responded promptly when they needed help.
The home had improved since the previous inspection, when it was rated Requires Improvement. The provider was no longer breaching Regulation 17 because its audits and systems for checking care had improved.
Some individual care plans and risk assessments were not yet complete, although the home had identified this and planned to complete them with the people concerned. The inspection was prompted partly by concerns received about people's care, and CQC said it would continue to monitor the service.
Prompt support
Inspectors saw staff available in communal areas and responding promptly to call bells and requests for help.
“We saw call bells were answered promptly, staff were available for people in communal spaces and when people asked for support this was also provided promptly.” from the report
Safe medicines
Medicines were stored, managed and given safely. Staff training and regular competency checks were in place.
“Improvements had been made and medicines were stored, managed and administered in a safe way.” from the report
People felt listened to
People and relatives spoke positively about the care. Their views, culture, gender and religion were considered in assessments.
“People felt listened to. People had the opportunity to offer feedback on the service.” from the report
Improved management checks
The home had introduced regular audits covering areas such as staffing, medicines and checks of the service. Action plans were used when improvements were needed.
“Audits were consistently completed within the home, they covered areas such as staffing levels, medicines management and walk rounds of the service.” from the report
Some records were incomplete
needs fixingSome people did not yet have individual care plans or risk assessments in place. The home had identified this and planned to complete them with the people concerned.
“Some people did not always have individual care plans or risk assessment in place, however this had been identified and there were plans in place to complete this alongside people.” from the report

Or stay at home with a private carer
Many people who look at care homes end up staying at home with a carer who comes in for a few hours a day, or lives in. PrimeCarers introduces you to self-employed carers you choose yourself: interviewed, ID and DBS checked, from about £20 an hour or £1,120 a week live-in.
