What inspectors found, February 2024
Rated Good; inspectors found kind, safe and personalised care, but one incident was not reported to CQC as required.
This was an unannounced inspection on 5 January 2024. Inspectors reviewed care plans, staff records, medicines and quality checks. They spoke with people, relatives, staff and professionals.
The home was rated Good in all five areas: Safe, Effective, Caring, Responsive and Well-led. Inspectors found enough staff, safe medicines systems, good care records and a clean environment. People were treated with kindness, dignity and respect, and their choices and communication needs were supported.
The inspection was prompted partly by an incident after which a person died. CQC said the circumstances of that incident were not examined during this inspection because further investigation was continuing. Inspectors found that one other incident had not been notified to CQC as legally required, although the notification was submitted after the inspection.
Enough staff
Staff numbers and skills matched people's needs. This supported planned activities and appointments.
“The service had enough care workers to support all people could take part in their scheduled daily activities and attend appointments as required.” from the report
Kind and respectful care
Inspectors saw people being treated with kindness, dignity and respect. The home also supported people's equality, diversity and religious needs.
“People's privacy, dignity and independence was respected and promoted.” from the report
Personalised support
Care plans included people's preferences, communication needs and how they wanted to spend their time. The home used pictures and communication books where helpful.
“Support plans had pictures throughout to aid people's understanding of the information documented.” from the report
Positive culture
Management was visible and staff said they felt supported and able to raise concerns. Inspectors found good communication among staff.
“The service promoted a person-centred positive culture. There was good communication amongst all staff, which created positive outcomes for people.” from the report
Late incident notification
needs fixingThe home did not notify CQC about one incident when it was legally required to do so. It submitted the notification after the inspection.
“The provider had failed to notify CQC of 1 incident that occurred at the service after the last inspection, of which they have a legal requirement to do so.” from the report
- 01What steps have been taken to make sure every incident that must be reported is notified to CQC promptly?
- 02What is the current position of CQC's further investigation into the incident following which a person died?
- 03How will people be kept safe while maintenance work is carried out in the rooms that need extensive work?
- 04How will you support my relative's particular communication needs, cultural or religious preferences and daily activities?
- 05How do you check that staff remain competent to administer medicines?
This was an unannounced inspection covering all five rating areas, but it did not examine the circumstances of the incident following which a person died because CQC's further investigation was continuing. This explanation was written from the published report of 16 February 2024 by an AI system and checked against the report text: every quoted line appears in the report. Or stay at home with a private carer
Many people who look at care homes end up staying at home with a carer who comes in for a few hours a day, or lives in. PrimeCarers introduces you to self-employed carers you choose yourself: interviewed, ID and DBS checked, from about £20 an hour or £1,120 a week live-in.
