What inspectors found, December 2023

Rated Good; inspectors found safe, caring support, but medicines records and some anxiety guidance needed improvement.

This was an unannounced focused inspection on 6 December 2023. Inspectors looked at Safe and Well-led. They spoke with people, relatives, staff and health professionals, and reviewed care records, medicines records and the home's systems.

People were generally safe and well supported. Inspectors found enough trained staff, safe recruitment, suitable safeguarding arrangements, good infection control and regular checks on risks, equipment and fire safety. People and relatives were very positive about staff being kind, respectful and knowledgeable.

There were some problems. Medicines procedures were not always followed, including leaving one person's medicines in a pot and concerns about recording insulin opening dates. Guidance for supporting people during increased anxiety was not detailed enough. The home acted immediately on the medicines issue and no one was harmed.

The overall rating is Good, as are Safe and Well-led. The home was also rated Good at the previous inspection in 2018. The other three areas were not inspected during this visit, so their previous ratings were used for the overall rating.
