What inspectors found, December 2023
Greenlands View is rated Requires Improvement; care had improved greatly, but records, independence planning and management systems still needed work.
The inspection took place on 12 and 16 October 2023. One inspector spent time with all three people living at the home, observed care, spoke with staff, relatives and professionals, and checked care, medicine, recruitment and training records.
Inspectors found major improvements since the previous inspection. People were protected from abuse, medicines were generally managed safely, staffing levels were sufficient, and staff were kind and respectful. Care planning, incident records and the home’s quality checks had also improved.
Some work was not yet complete. Records did not always clearly show people’s progress towards goals or independence, some incident records lacked detail, and the policy requiring two staff to sign for a particular medicine was not always followed. The overall rating is Requires Improvement. The home was no longer in breach of regulations or special measures, but CQC said it would continue to monitor progress.
Kind and respectful care
Inspectors saw staff communicating positively and at a pace suited to people’s needs. Relatives said they were happy with their family members’ care.
“People were supported by caring and kind staff.” from the report
Improved safety systems
Risk management, safeguarding processes and incident oversight had improved significantly since the last inspection. Staff understood how to raise safeguarding concerns.
“Significant improvements had been made to the recording, reporting and oversight of incidents and accidents.” from the report
Staff training and support
Staff had training relevant to the people living at the home, including learning disability, autism, epilepsy and dysphagia. Their practice and competence were checked.
“Staff had received training, so they had the relevant skills and knowledge to support people safely.” from the report
People’s choices were respected
People were involved in decisions about their care and were offered choices about daily routines, activities, food and drink.
“People were supported to have as much choice and control of their lives as possible.” from the report
Incomplete incident records
needs fixingA few records did not contain enough information about incidents, including their duration and injuries. Inspectors said this was needed to support learning from incidents.
“A few records we saw required further information regarding the details of the incident, for example duration of the incident and clarity regarding some injuries.” from the report
Goals and independence not recorded clearly enough
needs fixingCare plans did not consistently show how people were supported to achieve their goals, build everyday skills or become more independent. Records did not always show progress clearly.
“Care plans did not always capture consistently how people were supported to achieve their personal goals and aspirations.” from the report
Medicine signing procedure not always followed
needs fixingOn a few occasions, the home’s policy requiring two staff to sign for a specific medicine was not followed. Immediate action was taken when this was identified.
“We saw a few occasions where the providers policy on 2 staff signing for a specific medicine, with associated risks, had not always been followed.” from the report
- 01How will you record each person’s goals, progress and support to develop everyday living skills?
- 02What checks now make sure incident records include the full details, including duration and any injuries?
- 03How do you ensure two staff sign for medicines where the care plan and policy require this?
- 04Has the work to the fire doors been completed, and are there any other outstanding environmental safety works?
- 05How are you making sure recent improvements continue despite the management changes mentioned by relatives?
This was a monitoring inspection to check progress on earlier breaches and it rated all five key questions; infection prevention and control was also checked. This explanation was written from the published report of 2 December 2023 by an AI system and checked against the report text: every quoted line appears in the report. It is a guide to the report, not a substitute for it. Read the full report on cqc.org.uk.

Or stay at home with a private carer
Many people who look at care homes end up staying at home with a carer who comes in for a few hours a day, or lives in. PrimeCarers introduces you to self-employed carers you choose yourself: interviewed, ID and DBS checked, from about £20 an hour or £1,120 a week live-in.
