What inspectors found, December 2023

Waterside Care Home is rated Good; inspectors found people were safe, supported by staff and living in a well-managed home.

Inspectors visited without warning on 25 October 2023. They spoke with people, a relative, staff and the manager. They also checked the building, care and medicines records, staffing and recruitment files, and the systems used to monitor quality.

The home was rated Good overall. Safe was rated Good, improving from Requires Improvement at the last inspection. Inspectors found risk assessments, medicines checks, infection control and staffing arrangements were helping to keep people safe.

Well-led was rated Good, the same as at the last inspection. Inspectors found that managers checked the quality of care, listened to people and staff, and continued to make improvements.

What inspectors praised
  • Risk management

    Care records contained risk assessments and staff monitored the environment to reduce risks. Inspectors also found evidence of learning to help prevent wounds.

  • Medicines safety

    Senior staff were trained to give medicines safely, and their skills were checked. Records included information about doses, timing, purpose and possible side effects.

    People and relatives said there were enough staff. Inspectors saw staff working in a calm and unhurried way.
