What inspectors found, December 2023
Glebe House is rated Good; inspectors found safe, well-managed care, but this visit did not review all five areas.
Inspectors made an unannounced focused visit on 23 November 2023. They spoke with five people living at the home, a relative, a visitor, managers and staff. They also reviewed care records, medicine records and management checks.
The home was rated Good for Safe and Well-led. People told inspectors they felt safe. Staff understood people's mental health needs, risks were assessed, medicines were managed safely and infection control practices were followed.
Inspectors found a caring and open culture, with support for people's independence, religious beliefs and daily living skills. Managers used audits, meetings and incident reviews to identify improvements.
This was not a full inspection. The ratings for Effective, Caring and Responsive were not reviewed and were carried forward from the previous comprehensive inspection, which was rated Good in 2018.
Good safety arrangements
Risks were assessed and staff knew how to support people when their mental health changed. The home also reviewed incidents and shared learning with staff.
“Where people had dips in their mental health there was information in their care plans to show what the triggers could be” from the report
Medicines managed safely
Inspectors found that medicines were administered safely. Staff followed professional advice for a person who had difficulty swallowing.
“Medicines were managed safely and staff followed safe practice when administering medicines.” from the report
Support for independence
The home supported people to build daily living skills and work towards more independent lives. A rehabilitation area and rehabilitation coordinators supported these goals.
“The service had a rehabilitation area which was set up to help people improve their daily living skills.” from the report
Strong management checks
The manager used audits to look for patterns in accidents and incidents and made changes when needed. Staff said they felt supported and could raise issues.
“The registered manager undertook robust auditing processes in all aspects of people's care.” from the report
Inspectors raised no specific concerns in this report.
- 01How will you recognise and respond if my relative's mental health changes, including their known triggers?
- 02What support could my relative receive to build daily living skills and work towards greater independence?
- 03How do you make sure learning from incidents or safeguarding events is put into practice?
- 04How are the building and shared areas maintained so they can be cleaned effectively?
- 05How will you keep me informed if concerns or changes in my relative's care are identified?
This was a focused inspection of Safe and Well-led only; the ratings for Effective, Caring and Responsive were carried over from the previous comprehensive inspection in 2018. Or stay at home with a private carer
Many people who look at care homes end up staying at home with a carer who comes in for a few hours a day, or lives in. PrimeCarers introduces you to self-employed carers you choose yourself: interviewed, ID and DBS checked, from about £20 an hour or £1,120 a week live-in.
